The Janoskis are the stuff of legend in skateboarding. The Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski Shoes are this generation of skaters’ Chuck Taylors.
Before the shoe, Stefan Janoski was known for his mind-boggling bag of switch tricks. His effortless style and trick selection in Habitat Skateboard’s video "Mosaic" introduced him to skateboarders worldwide. But it was the Nike SB Janoski that introduced the name to the world and launched his career into superstardom - that’s not to say he wasn’t already on his way. You don’t get on Nike SB without having something special about you.
There are close to 70 variations of the Janoskis out in the world ranging from an infant size to a Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski Mid, which features cold-weather insulation and design. Much like other popular Nikes that came before it, the Janoski is incredibly versatile. You can take a pair of the Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoskis and color every panel a different color, and they’d look good - they’re just a great-looking pair of shoes. Nike SB took this idea to the next level when it designed the Nike SB Janoski Max, which is essentially a trainer version of the popular Janoski. And guess what? It’s dope. It features a lightweight Phylon Midsole, breathable mesh uppers, and a Max Air Unit for ultra maximum comfort under the heel.
Good looking or not, a skate shoe isn’t going to really get respect unless it skates well. In order to test how the Janoski skated we called on Portland local, Chris Klich, to mash around an indoor bowl in this Janoski Wear Test. As you might’ve guessed, the Janoski’s are comfortable, durable, and a ton of fun to skate. So skateable are the Janoskis that Nike SB made a pair of Janoski Slip-Ons.
In 2016, Nike SB introduced the Janoski Hyperfeel and the Nike SB Zoom Stefan Janoski XT. To promote the Hyperfeel, SB filmed a video in which Stefan had the magical ability to make objects and obstacles more skateable - a gift any skateboarder would love to have. The commercial was rad, but this video from the Nikeskateboarding YouTube page about the making of the Hyperfeel Commercial is even better.
The Janoski Hyperfeel feature SB’s Nike Hyperfeel System and the responsive, specially designed Lunarlon sockliner that flexes with the outsole for maximum boardfeel and control. Much like the Koston 3 Hyperfeel XT, the Janoski Hyperfeel XT feature extra-tough construction that includes rugged suede and a rubber toe tip for maximum boardfeel and durability. How many incarnations of the Janoski lie ahead is as impossible to predict as its initial success, but one thing is for certain, it has help change the way the world sees skateboarding shoes and skateboarding for the better.
