Nora Vasconcellos Catalog Interview

So Nora… What has been occupying your time most lately? Filming? Traveling? Demos? Singing? Art? A little bit of everything. I’m finishing a part for a Welcome video we have coming out in the Spring. I have also been messing around a lot with some art stuff. More specifically spray paint which has been really fun.

How often are you traveling for skate stuff these days? Usually at least once a month, although it fluctuates. Sometimes I have three whole weeks at home and other times I'm gone for that long.

Recently you got to speak at The United Nations. That seems insane! Can you tell us a little bit about that? That was so wild. I was invited to speak at a conference on sustainability on behalf of Adidas. It was so nerve-racking but such a learning experience. I spoke about Adidas’ collaboration with Parley, an organization that removes plastics from the ocean and turns them into textiles. Specifically, Adidas is making shoes and clothing made from a yarn knit from ocean plastic. It’s really revolutionary in terms of creating a resource from trash, which is such an important concept in sustainable fashion.

Were you nervous as hell or was it mellow?I was freaking out a little bit, I had not been that nervous in a really long time. It’s good to scare yourself every once and a while though, I always come away from those experiences so stoked.

Who’s some of your favorite up and coming skaters out there right now? That’s a long list so I’ll just name a few… Heitor da Silva, Roman Pabich, the Delfinos, Zach Allen, Ben Koppl, Murilo Peres, Evan Wasser…

Is it true that you have a new micro-ramp in your garage? We do! My roommate Josh built it. It’s sick, we just got some GatorSkin for it as well so it’s legit.

Have you been surfing a lot?I had been before we started getting all the rain. It’s such a bummer how dirty the water is right now.

What hurts more, skating or surfing?Skateboarding for sure! I want to learn airs surfing so bad because you can just huck em and not worry about shoulder checking yourself into concrete.

What are 3 of your favorite Instagrams to follow? Skate or non-skate…Ohhh that’s a good one. I’ll choose some non-skate ones. @Wobblycats. @t.hanks. @bobmenery.

You recently became part of a Kombucha company. Can you tell us a little bit about it?YASSS! So the company is called Juneshine and it’s just a bunch of friends making the best hard Kombucha around. It’s a healthier and refreshing alcoholic drink made for active people who want to know what they are putting in their bodies. I’m most excited to be working alongside such a creative team. They are like family now.

If you drink alcoholic kombucha, do you break even in the health department?Haha I do and thats exactly how I feel when I am drinking it (responsibly). It’s gluten-free, and filled with antioxidants and probiotics so it’s a win win.

What are you most excited for in 2019? Any rad projects or trips coming up?I have a really rad surf trip coming up this month with an amazing crew of Australian pro surfers. It’s an all girls trip and we are driving down the east coast which will be rad. I’m really excited because they are surfers I have always admired so I’ll be a bit starstruck at first. Overall I’m just excited to get on the road again with friends, visit new spots and sing Karaoke.
