CCS Tech Talk: Spring Break 2018

CCS Tech Talk is all about translating bullet points into usable information. Today, I’m going to tackle the Spring Break 2018 boards we have in stock at CCS.com. For those of you unfamiliar, Spring Break is an offshoot of Capita. Every year Spring Break shapes boards that are designed for the sheer fun of snowboarding. There’s nothing serious about them - whether it’s slashing slush with beers in hand, throwing powder on the deepest days with the bros, or charging groomers in a tropical storm, Spring Break decks are made for taking it easy and having a laugh at how serious snowboarding can feel sometimes.

The shape of every board in the Spring Break lineup comes from the mind of Corey Smith. He initially built boards out of his garage (boards like the ones shown above.) He now works with Capita as the chief conceptualizer-board magician. The first board I want to talk about is the Spring Break Catamaran, a board that hails from Spring Break’s Powder Collection. The most obvious thing to address with the Catamaran is the double swallowtail. A swallowtail allows your board to lock into a turn so you can ride it out without washing out. With a double swallowtail you have this option riding regular and switch. The benefits of how this feature effects float remain to be seen. The ultra-lightweight surflite core and surf rocker help the Catamaran have been proven tho. They help the Catamaran and all of Spring Break's Powder Collection float on the deepest powder and help you throw big, surfy carves all over the mountain. Spring Break calls the culmination of these features Zero Gravity Float, which is just another way of saying really fun.

Next up is another sweet-ass ride from the Spring Break Powder Collection, the Capita Spring Break Tree Hunter Snowboard. Every board in the Powder Collection has a Surflite Core and Surf Rocker camber profile. Essentially, each deck in the Powder Collection is the same save the shape. The Tree Hunter has a wide, blunted spoon nose perfect for mobbing through deep powder without being so beefy that you can’t slip through your favorite tree runs and chutes. It’s all about the balance of float and staying nimble with the tree hunter.

The Capita Spring Break Slush Slasher Snowboard is not part of the Powder Collection - it’s a beast all on its own. Made primarily for making the most out of less than perfect conditions, the Slush Slasher is an awesome quiver choice. Its unique shape features an elongated nose, a set back stance, and a Vacation Tail. The Vacation Tail is fully equipped with an inlaid alloy skid plate that sparks when you encounter sharks in less than perfect conditions. It’s my favorite board from that we have in stock simply because its unique shape is just as fun in shit conditions as it is on those insane deep, deep days we all dream about.
