- Choose a deck with a width that will cover the majority of your foot, with your toes and heels hanging just slightly off the edges.
- If a skater’s shoe size is smaller than a US Men’s Size 5, a mini-skateboard is a great option.
At the end of the day, if it's comfortable under your feet when riding, it's a good size for you.
Over time, you’ll come to understand what width best fits under your feet and your skating style. But for a beginner, a board that’s as wide as your foot is long is a great place to start.
Mini Skateboards
A mini skateboard is just a regular skateboard but sized down. They are lighter, narrower, and have a shorter wheelbase than a standard skateboard. This makes them easier for younger, smaller skaters to use and learn on.
If your skater wears a shoe smaller than a US Men’s Size 5, consider a mini deck.
Riding Style
When choosing a deck size, you may also want to consider the type of riding you are going to do.
This is the best general advice we can provide but remember it’s just a baseline. It’s all up to personal preference. It’s important to try different sizes and shapes to see what works best for you and your type of riding.
- Wider decks, 8.50” & above, are good for vert riding (ramps, pools, etc.) and cruising because they are more stable.
- Narrower decks, 7.5” - 8.25”, are good for street tricks like kickflips because they are more responsive.
- Middle-ground decks, 8.25” - 8.50”, are good for all-around skating, or if you want to do a little of everything. They provide enough flexibility to do it all.
