- You want the axle width of the trucks to match up with the width of the skateboard deck. Too narrow of a truck will be unstable and too wide of a truck can result in shoe to wheel contact while pushing, as well as other problems.
- Skateboard decks are measured in inches but trucks are measured using a variety of methods and units that vary by brand. To make things simple, we’ve created a chart for each brand to make it easy for you to find your perfect match.
Skateboard Truck Height
The biggest consideration when selecting a truck height is the size of wheel you’ll be pairing with your trucks. If a wheel is too big for a given truck height, it will rub against the board when you turn and cause your board to stop (wheel bite).
Like just about everything in skateboarding, truck height is all about preference and the type of skating you’re doing.
-
High Trucks are the most common skateboard trucks and are more compatible with larger wheels (52mm and above). They are slightly heavier than mid or low trucks.
-
Mid Trucks are lighter than high trucks but still offer more wheel clearance than low trucks. They are compatible with most small to mid-sized wheels (50-54mm)
-
Low Trucks are lighter and more stable but require smaller wheels (52mm and below)
