We had a chat with local ripper and team rider Tyler Quigley about skating, art and his two new tattoo inspired graphics for CCS.
Where are you from?
I was born in a small surf town in Southern California. I then spent the majority of my formative years in San Francisco.
How long have you skated?
I picked up a board around age 5 and it hasn’t left my side since.
What was your first set-up?
My first board was a World Industries Devil Boy board. It had Tensor Trucks and Ricta Wheels.
When you were a kid, did you get the CCS catalog?
As kids, my brother and I used to circle items we wanted in the catalog. It was a rad glimpse into the skate world and we were always excited to see what was new!
When did you start drawing?
I started drawing and painting after blowing out my knee in 2018. I was laid up for almost a year and wanted to teach myself something new.
How'd you come to do these graphics for CCS?
My favorite thing to paint is Tattoo Flash. I love reusing old imagery and symbols that have been used for years. They’re strong, bold, and easily recognizable. Before Covid, I spent some time being shop help at Ocean Ave. Tattoo in San Francisco. I became obsessed with all things tattoo and have a deep appreciation for the craft.
Do you tattoo?
I do! It’s an extremely rewarding and intimate process. I have huge respect and appreciation for professionals in the field.
What other mediums do you work in?
I really love ceramics. I used to throw at my friend’s studio in SF but I haven’t been able to get back on the wheel since moving to Portland.
What's your current setup?
My current setup is a 9-inch ATM, Gullwing Trucks, 56mm 95 duro OJ Wheels, RED Bearings.
