The Polar Skate Co. x Converse Collaboration wants you to be happy that sometimes life can be sad. Pontus Alv, Polar’s founder is known for a lot of things, but as a professional skateboarder, he made an impression on everyone when he started his part in In Search of The Miraculous with a clip of him sitting with his dead grandfather. He later explained in a Jenkem interview how he was “sitting there with him, just to face death, just to feel the feeling.”

Pontus, in that same interview, talked about how death is a motivator, “without it, life doesn’t make sense. Imagine if you had eternal life? It would be bullshit.” This example of Pontus, hopefully, gives you some sense of Polar Skate Co. Wanting to make the most out of life, the need to get out and do something everyday, the need to create meaningful art - it all ties into what makes Polar such an interesting company.

Pontus, when asked about getting on Converse, said he’s always been a fan of the One Stars and the Jack Purcells. The apparel in the Polar x CONS collection features the Polar No Comply logo throughout. The collection consists of a hoodie, nylon running shorts, t-shirts, and the Converse Jack Purcell Pro x Polar. Polar’s iconic Happy Sad logo is on the license plate of the Jack Purcell x Polar shoes. Debossed Polar graphics and prints also appear on the shoe on the heel tab and sockliner.

The Converse Jack Purcell was originally released in 1935 as a badminton shoe. It’s best known for its “smile” design feature across the toe. It would seem that the Purcell and Polar were meant to have a collab. The Converse Jack Purcell Pro x Polar shoes feature an all suede upper, a dual density OrthoLite® sockliner with a Nike Zoom airbag in the heel for added cushion and comfort.

The Converse x Polar Skate Co. collection drops Friday July, 28, 2017 and will be available on CCS.com.
