eS was one of the first skate shoe brands to really push the market into athletic styles and incorporate new technology into its designs. This progressive attitude allowed eS to recruit some of the biggest names in skateboarding. In 1995, when eS first started, its team roster was Rick McCrank, Sal Barbier, Rodrigo TX, Bob Burnquist, Arto Saari, Chad Muska, Ronnie Creager, Tom Penny, and Eric Koston. It was essentially the Dream Team of skateboarding at the time. Part of the reason it was able to pull such talent was because of the direction it was heading.
eS is one brand under an umbrella company, Sole Technology, which also owns etnies, Emerica, and ThirtyTwo. Etnies’ success allowed eS to push its shoe designs into directions that had never been seen before in skateboarding.
eS Shoes like the Koston 1, The Muska, The Creager, and The Accel were some of the first to be produced and were immediately met with positive reviews. Moving forward, it became apparent eS wasn’t afraid to incorporate designs, materials, and technology being used in popular basketball shoes and sneakers. This approach allowed eS to take chances and ultimately push skate shoe design forward. But, as fate would have it, it was one of eS’ simplest and earliest designs that would be its most successful. The eS Accel has been part of the lineup since 1995, and is still in production today, coming in a Mid-top, slim, and an OG. And while skate shoe design today has proven that less is more, eS continues to push the materials and tech it uses, effectively making its shoes more comfortable and durable without excess materials, stitching, or design.
