The launch of Nike's skateboarding program and the creation of its Nike SB line has been one of the company's greatest success stories. The footwear giant, arguably one of the most powerful marketing companies in the world, took several passes at the skateboard market, but nothing stuck quite like the launch of Nike SB in 2002. From its super limited releases of its classic Dunk model in skate-inspired color stories, to its sponsorship of some of the best skateboard contests and events in the world, to its endorsement deals with some of the most respected pro and amateur skateboarders globally, Nike has effectively done with skate what it has with it's other sporting categories-won the hearts and minds of consumers with top level product and a die-hard commitment to the sport.
