In 1973, California surfers Rich Novak, Doug Haut, and Jay Shuirman took the first letters of their last names and started a surf business called NHS. As skateboarding grew in popularity, NHS ventured into the skate world and started Santa Cruz Skateboards, named with a nod to the location of the business. Jimbo Phillips was the main graphic designer, and created the iconic "Screaming Hand" logo, which is displayed on Santa Cruz decks, longboards, clothing, and is a universal symbol of the brand. From the 1980's, all the way to the present day, Santa Cruz has maintained a strong team of professional skateboarders. With seasoned vets like Jason Jesse, Tom Knox, Eric Dressen, and Steve Alba, to young shredders like Justin Strubing, Emmanuel Guzman, Sid Melvin, and Shuriken Shannon, their pro team remains a force to be reckoned with in the skate world. CCS proudly carries a large selection of Santa Cruz decks and longboards.
