When Michael Akira West was introduced to snowboarding in 1985, it instantly became a passion. After years of shredding up the slopes, West eventually founded 686 Technical Apparel in November 1992. The name '686' has two meanings: The numbers add up to West's age when he started the brand (20). They also carry some private meaning for West, as it is the month and year (June 1986) when his grandma told him something "special".
